Swedish clarinetist Magnus Holmander is an extraordinary artist that fascinates the world. Acclaimed for his vibrant performances, commanding stage presence and magical touch, he consistently leaves the audience wanting more.

His journey to prominence began with a significant endorsement from the clarinet superstar Martin Fröst, who recognized his talents and invited him to participate in the show "Dollhouse" in 2013. This opportunity allowed Holmander to showcase his skills across various concert halls in the Nordic region. Fröst has since hailed him as "one of the most full-fledged clarinetists in Sweden”. 

 

Within a single year, Holmander was awarded 1st prize at the esteemed Blåsmusikpriset, selected as one of six European "Rising Stars" by the European Concert Hall Organisation, and listed as one of Swedens top 20 most influential musicians by Opus Magazine. The Rising Star award provided him the opportunity to go on an international tour, in which he performed a number of concerts in prestigious halls such as the Concertgebouw, Elbphilharmonie and Musikverein. A solo album with Holmander was released by Naxos Records in 2022.

 

On stage and online, Holmander have become renowned for his entertaining surprises. As a musician and magician, he often infuses his performances with a touch of magic, enriching the music with charm and a sense of humor. His experimental curiosity and artistic versatility have inspired a multitude of Swedish composers. Jacob Mühlrad's clarinet concerto, written specifically for Holmander, premiered in the spring of 2024 at Berwaldhallen in Stockholm. Other close collaborations with contemporary composers also include Benjamin Staern, Molly Joyce, Rolf Martinsson and Anders Hillborg. 

 

Magnus Holmander's unique blend of technical prowess, innovative artistry, and charismatic performance style makes him a standout figure in the world of classical music. His ability to push the boundaries of traditional clarinet playing marks him as a visionary, and a beacon for the future of classical music.
